Highlights

  • Baking lavash on the wall of a clay oven, which children take to immediately
  • A cable car, a swinging bridge and a rope park, spread across the week
  • Swimming in Lake Sevan and a beach afternoon
  • Short driving days and a proper break every afternoon

Who this suitsFamilies with children roughly five to fifteen. Under-sixes are welcome and we will rework the pace.

Please noteChildren under twelve travel at half price, and under-threes free. Tell us their ages when you enquire and we will send back a version with the pace adjusted.

Day by day

Day1

Yerevan

Arrival and an easy afternoon: the Cascade escalators, Botero's cat, ice cream, and the singing fountains after dark. Nothing demanding on day one.

YerevanDinner
Day2

Garni, the gorge and lavash

The temple, the basalt columns in the gorge, and a lavash session where everyone gets flour on themselves. Geghard afterwards, which is short and dramatic and echoes when you sing.

YerevanBreakfast, lunch
Day3

Lake Sevan

North to the lake. Sevanavank in the morning, then a beach afternoon — swimming, a boat if the weather allows, and nothing scheduled.

Lake SevanBreakfast, dinner
Day4

Dilijan and the forest

Through the tunnel into the woods. A short forest walk to Parz Lake, a rope park and zipline for anyone who wants it, and Haghartsin in the afternoon.

DilijanBreakfast, dinner
Day5

Back south, and Areni

Down to Vayots Dzor. The Areni-1 cave, where the world's oldest leather shoe was found — a genuinely good story for children — and a farm lunch. Wine tasting for the adults, grape juice for everyone else.

YerevanBreakfast, lunch
Day6

Yerevan and home

A morning at the History Museum to see the Areni shoe itself and the Bronze Age wooden carts from Lchashen, then Vernissage for souvenirs before the airport.
