We are new, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What we are not new to is Armenia — this is where we grew up, and these are the roads we already know.
Our story
We got tired of hearing our country explained badly
There is a version of Armenia that gets sold to visitors: a list of superlatives, a coach, forty minutes at each monastery, and a driver who has stopped listening. The dates are approximate, the legends are presented as history, and nobody mentions that the mountain in every photograph is in another country.
We think a place this old deserves better than that. So we keep the groups small enough that you can ask a question and get an answer. We tell you which stories are documented and which are simply good stories. And we spend the extra half hour at Sanahin if that is where the conversation went.
It is not a complicated business model. It is mostly just refusing to rush.
Responsible travel
Where the money goes
Tourism can hollow out a village or hold it together, and the difference is mostly about who gets paid.
We use family guesthouses instead of chain hotels wherever the standard allows, eat in village houses rather than roadside operations built for coaches, and buy wine from the people who made it. Our guides are employed, not casual labour, and paid year-round rather than only in September.
We also try not to overload the places that are already busy. That is partly why several of our routes go to Hayravank rather than Sevanavank, or Odzun rather than only Haghpat — they are quieter, and quite often better.
None of this is certified by anybody. It is just how we would want someone to visit where we are from.
